INTERGOVERNMENTAL PANEL ON CLIMATE CHANGE (IPCC).

IPCC Intergovernmental Panel On Climate Change

The aim of this report is to know about what is IPCC, its overview, its history, its structure, preparing reports, future work and its scholarship. We have searched this information in IPCC´s web and in wikipedia.

1.WHAT IS IPCC?

The Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Climate change or the
intergovernmental Panel on climate change, known by the acronym
in English IPCC.

2.OVERVIEW

An open and transparent review by experts and governments
around the world is an essential part of the IPCC process, to ensure
an objective and complete assessment and to reflect a diverse
range of views and expertise. Through its assessments, the IPCC
identifies the strength of scientific agreement in different areas and
indicates where further research is needed. The IPCC does not
conduct its own research.

3.History of the IPCC

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was established in 1988 to
provide policymakers with regular scientific assessments on the current state of knowledge about climate change.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was established by the United
Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organization
(WMO) in 1988.
The establishment of the IPCC was endorsed by UN General Assembly in 1988. Its initial task, as outlined in UN General Assembly Resolution 43/53 of 6 December 1988, was to prepare a comprehensive review and recommendations with respect to the state of knowledge of the science of climate change; the social and economic impact of climate change, and potential response strategies and elements for inclusion in a possible future international convention on climate.
In 1990, the First IPCC Assessment Report (FAR) underlined the importance of climate
change as a challenge with global consequences and requiring international cooperation. It played a decisive role in the creation of the UNFCCC, the key international treaty to reduce global warming and cope with the consequences of climate change.
In 2007, the IPCC and U.S. Vice-President Al Gore were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize “for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about manmadeclimate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are neededto counteract such change”

4. STRUCTURE

Representatives of IPCC member governments meet one or more times a year in Plenary Sessions of the Panel. They elect a Bureau of scientists for the duration of an assessment cycle. Governments
and Observer Organizations nominate, and Bureau members select
experts to prepare IPCC reports. They are supported by the IPCC
Secretariat and the Technical Support Units of the Working Groups
and Task Force.

5. PREPARING REPORTS:

Assessment Reports consist of contributions from each Working
Group and a Synthesis Report integrating these contributions and
any Special Reports prepared in that assessment cycle. The IPCC
also produces Special Reports on specific issues agreed by its
member governments and Methodology Reports that provide
practical guidelines for the preparation of greenhouse gas
inventories.

6.FUTURE WORK

At its 43rd Session in April 2016, the IPCC decided to prepare
proposals for aligning the work of the IPCC during its Seventh
Assessment Report (AR7) cycle with the needs of the global
stocktake under the Paris Agreement. At its 46th Session in
September 2017, the Panel established a Task Group on the
Alignment of the IPCC Cycles and the Global Stocktake. At the 47th
Session in March 2018, the Panel adopted the Task Group’s terms
of reference and renamed it Task Group on the Organization of the
Future Work of the IPCC in Light of the Global Stocktake.

7.SCHOLARSHIP

The IPCC Scholarship Programme provides scholarships for PhD
students from developing countries for research that advances the
understanding of the scientific basis of risks of climate change, its
potential impacts and options for adaptation and mitigation.
